Saving Energy
10 Ways to Save Energy
One of the biggest problems in the world today is depletion of energy. As concerned citizens we all need a concerted effort to be conscious citizens and save electricity. Electricity has become an integral part of life, but think living without electricity…… unheard of except for some small cultures.
One of the biggest problems in the world today is depletion of energy. As concerned citizens we all need a concerted effort to be conscious citizens and save electricity. Electricity has become an integral part of life, but think living without electricity. The conservation of electricity benefits you personally that you pay lower bills.
- Creating an energy analysis. This will tell you where and when energy use and where the wastage lies. You can create a Energy Plan , pointing out exactly how to cut down on energy consumption. Some ideas may be as simple as not leaving the machine at all times.
- Think about resetting the temperature ten degrees lower night. If you can do this for say approximately eight hours a day, you ‘ll save 10% on energy without sacrificing comfort. Insulate your home in winter by drawing the curtain closed.
- Check all insulation in the house. If your attic insulation to increase to about 12 inches of electricity will decrease by 20 percent.
- Plant more trees around the house they will cool the house in summer and insulate the house in winter. Studies show that green cover benefits in many ways.
- Has all power cords and outlets checked for leakage. Check all fuses and appliances.
- Fluorescent lamps are energy efficient. They use 75% less energy than regular incandescent bulbs. These have a longer life and contribute to great savings. Check out the 3-watt LED light bulb on the right top side of this page! I bought a few of these little gems (because I am a skeptical consumer) and WOW! Impressive and inexpensive to use! I’m gradually replacing all 42 of my standard light bulbs. Doing the math…….. the average bulb is 40 watts. 42 bulbs x 40 watts = 1,680 watts (No, they are not all on at once.) With the new LEDs: 42 bulbs x 3 watts = 126 watts. Need I say more?
- Use energy-efficient appliances. These use less energy and believe it or not is a high efficiency refrigerator uses less power than a light bulb. While the initial cost for replacing the appliance(s) is fairly higher than “making due with…..”, the final savings at the end of the year could very well be the cost of the appliance. Thus, in the end, paying for itself!
- When you away again, even for a few hours or days, you should turn off all electrical appliances and turn settings on the thermostat, heater and refrigerator on the lowest setting. You can purchase timers for your lamps to deter unwanted theft.
- Make sure you use a water saving showerhead. Water heating cost for a family can be decreased by at least U.S. $ 250 per year.
- Weatherizing your home. This helps to cut heating bills by 20% and cooling by at least 10 percent. Even if building a house or decorate using weather-friendly materials that are not good conductors of heat and cold. Install windows and windows in the roof so that you use sunlight to brighten the room during the day. An effort to turn off lights and fans when leaving a room. Make sure the filters in air conditioning and heating are always clean and free of clog and dust. Dirty filters can cause the heating unit to work harder and may create a fire hazard.
If you live an energy efficient lifestyle you will see the numbers on the energy bill actually reducing. The power to cut energy costs is well within your control. It s as simple as only washing full loads in cold water. Use the hot wash option only for very dirty clothes. Cook food just before you are ready to change the way you can save heating and cooling costs of storing the food. Set the thermostat in the refrigerator to minimum in cold or cool weather. Turn freezers when not in use. Small contributions can all add significant amounts of power saved. And the power saved means money in the bank.
